Stanley Martin Lieber, or Stan Lee as we know him is the Father of the Marvel Universe. Along with collaborators such as Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and others, he created the comic book characters we have all come to know and love such as Spiderman, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, Iron Man, and the X-Men. Stan Lee was born in New York City on December 28, 1922, in New York City. His parents were Romanian immigrants. He grew up during the Depression era.
Stan Lee initially went to work for Timely Comics, which later became Marvel Comics. His boss at Marvel comics with creating a comic book that could rival the success of DC Comics’ Justice League of America. Defying the usual superhero conventions of the time, Lee and Jack Kirby created the Fantastic Four in 1961, Lee’s characters displayed more relatable humanity, and had to deal with many of the important issue affecting Marvels readership at that time.
At 94 years of age he is still active and doing cameos in Marvel produced movies. He has been married to his wife Joan since December 5, 1947, for almost 70 years.
